 Institutional structure

Pendik Veterinary institute more than a hundred years in the history with beneficial contributions not only to local and global science but also for Turkish animal health. The first bacteriology laboratory was founded under the name of ``Bakteriyolojihane-i Osmani (Bacteriologyhouse of Ottoman) in 1894 under the management of Dr. Mourice Nicolle from France.  

This laboratory was then transferred to Nisantasi, Suleyman Pasa mansion in 1896.During that years due to the plague outbreaks in cattle, the bacteriology house started considering Cattle plague together with human cholera and diphtheria diseases studies. 

 In the same year the team with the gathered under Dr. Refik Guran’s management, carried out intense studies on cattle plague and finally cattle plague serum production started.In 1912 institute was transferred to its final location in Pendik. During that period Dr. Refik Guran was producing Barbon (Pasteurellosis bubalorum) vaccine, Tuberculin and Mallein. The institute was temporarily transferred to Eskisehir and then to Ankara and continued producing Cattle plague serum in 1918.

Following the proclamation of Turkish Republic, the phase of improvements started in 1923.During 1923-1948 the basics of vaccine productions established. During 1949-1964 first contacts with ICA and FAO, pathology laboratory founded, revolving fund established. During 1965-2001 equipments updated and institute magazine was established.

 The institute continues in the fields of researches, diagnostics services, production, education, publishing, strategy and project development. With these studies institute has established bounds with organisations such as FAO, OIE, AB, CNEVA, WHO-MZCC and developed common projects and strategies.

Pendik institute has become the reference laboratory of MZCC. As a result of researches and developments, Pendik Inst. is now producing 17 vaccines and 22 serums, antigen and biological materials.

Right now Pendik Inst. continues to serve with 40 laboratories under 6 departments.

Pendik Veterinary Control and Research Institute is directly committed and works under Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Pendik Inst. serves to 12 provinces in Trakya and Marmara Regions in some parts of their duties and serves to all country with the other duties such as biological productions, diagnostics and drug quality controls.
